What is Book Review about?
This is the 10th volume in the United States IBP Synthesis Series. The book has been written by 24 scientists and edited by R. L. Edmonds. This is the group that was largely responsible for the U.S. aerobiology program within the Biological Program. The book contains 8 chapters: 1. Introduction 2. Sources and characteristics of airborne materials 3. Atmospheric transport 4. Deposition 5. Sampling techniques 6. Impact of airborne materials on living systems 7. Modeling of aerobiological systems 8. The challenges of aerobiology The book is recommended to the meteorologist who wants to learn about aerobiology. The biological sections, particularly Chapters 2, 5, 6 and 7, are wideranging, informative and interesting. On the other hand, the meteorological discussions in Chapters 3 and 4 have been written 'down' to the level of the biologists and have generally avoided controversial questions and research gaps. The book hints at the difficulties encountered in organizing a U.S. aerobiology program within IBP. It is to the credit of W. S. Benninghoff of the University of Michigan, the initial director of the US/IBP aerobiology program, and to R. L. Edmonds, the editor of this book, that a
