The operation modes of a circular resonator with a helix inside are in ̈estigated in this short paper. Considering the assumption that the tape current of the helix can be expanded into a Fourier series, the propagation constant of the infinite helix-filled guide is obtained by using the trans ̈erse boundary condition. The resonance impedance condition of the longitudinal direction is used to determine the operation modes. The operation modes are determined to HE , where h is an n1h integer denoting the rank of the roots of characteristic equation. The dominant operation mode is pro ̈ed to be the HE mode. Agreement 011 between the numerical calculated results and experimental ̈alues presented earlier for a resonator with a helix or a tapered helix is obtained.
