This study evaluated and compared the distribution and mucoadhesive properties of thiolated anionic and cationic nanoparticles on intestinal mucosa. Nanoparticles were prepared using poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and chitosan, modified by conjugation with cysteine and 2-iminothiolane to add thiol groups. Thiolated nanoparticles showed higher mucoadhesion and lower diffusion through intestinal mucus than unmodified nanoparticles. Cationic nanoparticles also showed higher mucoadhesion than anionic nanoparticles. T
