1. Table 2.2 provides example radar cross sections (RCS) in square meters for various objects at microwave frequencies, ranging from insects at 10-1 m2 to large jet airliners at 40 m2. 2. A formula is given to estimate the RCS of ships at grazing incidence based on displacement tonnage and radar frequency. At higher angles the RCS may be 1 order of magnitude less. 3. For ships where no better data is available, displacement tonnage in tons can be used to roughly estimate RCS in square meters.
