Russian current consists of a 2500 Hz alternating current applied in bursts of 0.2 ms pulses with 10 ms intervals between bursts, producing 50 bursts per second. It causes tetanic muscle contraction when used for strengthening. The pulse rate is 50-70 pulses per second, duration is 150-200 microseconds, and duty cycle is 1:5. It is effective for muscle strengthening, decreasing edema, increasing blood flow, and reducing muscle spasm.
