Marlene Olermo was charged with illegal recruitment in large scale and five counts of estafa for recruiting five individuals and promising them jobs abroad without the proper license. Olermo argued the court did not have jurisdiction as her alleged acts occurred in Quezon City, not Valenzuela. However, the Supreme Court ruled the trial court in Valenzuela did have jurisdiction, as evidence showed Olermo offered the illegal recruitment services to at least one victim, Villanueva, in her office in Valenzuela.
