What is The Indonesian Confrontation: Political and Military Magnitudes about?

This paper aims at understanding the magnitude of the 1963 Indonesian Confrontation as part of the political and military dimension of Malaysian security. Confrontation was both a political and military threat to Malaysia's sovereignty and independence. The Indonesian Confrontation posed political and military threats to Malaysia. The political threat was in the form of Communist influence on the Indonesian government and the possibility that it might took over the state. The Communists declared that the formation of Malaysia was against their aim. The Confrontation itself was a military operation, which aimed to strengthen Indonesian political pressures toward Malaysia. It consisted of the Indonesian Army, the TNKU, Indonesian volunteers and ICP guerrillas. The ICP also cooperated with the Communist movement and political parties in Malaysia. In order to understand the issue, we will first discuss the background and reasons for the Confrontation and then explain the military and political threats. Finally, we will examine how the Confrontation was ended. We first turn to the background.
