It is more than evident that in recent years there has been a bibliographical explosion pertaining to the Phoenicians and their presence in the Mediterranean. This development is the consequence of several decades of intensive fieldwork, excavations, and research in museums, especially in Italy and Spain, with the strong contribution of the UNESCO "Save Carthage" campaigns in the 1970s and 1980s. Since the great exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice in 1988, Phoenicians have become a popular subject. From this panorama of research, only one tiny island in the middle of the Mediterranean seemed to be almost absent-Malta. The book under review comes just in time to fill the gap.
