About this document
Understanding Dialysis: Types and Risks by Ailen Rose Puertas is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Kidney dialysis is a procedure that substitutes for many normal kidney functions by filtering waste and excess fluid from the blood. There are two main types of dialysis - hemodialysis which uses a machine to filter blood outside the body, and peritoneal dialysis which uses the peritoneal membrane in the abdomen. Both allow people with kidney failure to live productive lives by performing essential kidney functions, but each method has advantages and risks to consider.
