The veins of the lower limbs can be divided into two groups - deep and superficial veins. The deep veins follow the same path as the arteries and accompany the major arteries. They drain deoxygenated blood from the muscles and empty into larger veins. The superficial veins are found beneath the skin and eventually drain into the deep veins.
