Thus, names are not necessarily connected with each individual birth. These examples call for a little more time spent considering the dates of these texts and their relationship to realities on the ground. Despite these minor weaknesses, those interested in the experience of children in the ancient world will find much of value here. Garroway's collection and analysis of the primary sources, her judicious use of ethnographic evidence, and the clear presentation of each topic will help to establish a place for childist studies in biblical and ancient Near Eastern studies. This reviewer looks forward to the ways that her work will reorient scholarship towards the lives and experiences of children, and in the process spur new research questions and agendas for some time to come.
