This study investigates the impact of credit risk on the profitability of commercial banks in Afghanistan using data from six banks between 2014 and 2018. It finds a significant negative effect of credit risk indicators on return on average assets (ROAA) and return on average equity (ROAE), while the net interest margin (NIM) shows a positive but insignificant relationship. The research suggests that improving credit management and asset efficiency can enhance the profitability of Afghan banks.
