Mary Ann Anong was a pioneering female fossil hunter who lived in Lyme Regis, England in the early 1800s. In 1811, she discovered the partial skeleton of an unknown creature embedded in the cliffs near her home. Over several years, she painstakingly excavated the entire skeleton, which was eventually identified as an ichthyosaur, a previously unknown marine reptile.
