"In 1944 His Majesty's Government authorized the publication of a collection of documents from the archives of the Foreign Office on British foreign policy during the period 1919-39 ... The Collection, as first planned, was divided into two Series, of which the first Series opened after the signature of the Treaty of Versailles and the second in the year 1930. In order to make available as soon as possible documents dealing with events most relevant to the outbreak of war in 1939, a third series has been added. The third Series will cover the period from the German invasion of Austria in March, 1938, to the outbreak of war.
