Four Pseudomonas strains isolated from oil-contaminated soils in Nigeria were tested for their ability to degrade crude oil. Pseudomonas putida P11 demonstrated strong degradation of various petroleum products including kerosene, gasoline, diesel, engine oil and crude oil. P. aeruginosa BB3 showed fair degradation of crude oil, gasoline, engine oil, anthracene and pyrene but weak degradation of kerosene, diesel and dibenzothiophene.
