A new system for measuring alternating current magnetic susceptibility in natural materials has been developed, allowing for frequency-dependent measurements from 1 Hz to 2.5 kHz. The system is simpler than traditional AC bridge circuits and can measure both in-phase and out-of-phase components with high sensitivity. Initial tests on loess and paleosol samples indicate that this method could enhance the understanding of grain size distribution in environmental magnetism.
