What is Overview of the Antonine Wall about?

The Antonine Wall was built in 142AD under the orders of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius. It stretched 38 miles across what is now Scotland, from Old Kilpatrick on the River Clyde to Carriden on the Forth. The wall consisted of a turf or earth rampart between 3 to 4.3 meters wide and tall, flanked by a large ditch and upcast mound. Sixteen forts were positioned along the wall to house Roman garrisons, and smaller fortlets provided access through the barrier at roughly mile intervals.
