This document summarizes a preliminary study on using alkaline activation to produce cementitious materials from urban glass waste and blast furnace slag. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium hydroxide/sodium carbonate (NaOH/Na2CO3) solutions were used as activators in mixtures of glass waste and slag at different ratios. Testing found that mixtures with 30-70% slag activated with NaOH/Na2CO3 had the highest compressive strength at 27.7 MPa. Flexural strength also tended to increase with higher slag content.
