About this document

RS-232 vs RS-485: Key Differences by vairam81 is a document available to read on EtoBox.

RS-232 and RS-485 are legacy serial interfaces still used in many applications. RS-232 uses single-ended voltage levels and has a maximum cable length of around 50 feet, limiting data rates. RS-485 uses differential signaling, allowing higher data rates up to several megabits per second over longer cable runs up to 4000 feet. Both interfaces define voltage levels and cable characteristics for serial communication between devices.
