The soap has been produced since 1916 when the King of Mysore established the Government Soap Factory to use surplus sandalwood reserves during World War 1. KSDL owns the brand name and ensures product quality. It produces Mysore Sandal Soap as well as other products like incense sticks and detergents. The soap contains 100% pure sandalwood oil and has 6500 tonne market share
