David Tudor traveled to Darmstadt, Germany in 1954 to perform and promote American experimental music. When he and John Cage performed their chance-based music, the audience was shocked by its randomness. However, Tudor met Karlheinz Stockhausen, who invited him to lecture at the influential Darmstadt summer courses from 1955-1959.
