What is Appendectomy Care Guidelines about?
This document describes the interventions for an appendectomy, which is the surgical removal of the appendix. Preoperatively, the patient is NPO and given IV fluids and electrolytes. Signs of a ruptured appendix are monitored for. Postoperatively, vital signs and bowel function are monitored. The incision is checked for signs of infection and drainage from any inserted Penrose drain is monitored as well. Pain medications and antibiotics are given as prescribed.
