This document describes an experiment where steam was injected into a cylindrical simulator packed with oil sands to study bitumen mobilization. Thermocouples recorded temperature data over time, allowing steam profiles to be plotted. The results provide evidence that bitumen is mobilized as an oil-in-water emulsion below typical steam injection temperatures, and that this emulsion is able to divert steam and hot water into cooler zones.
