This study examined the risk of congenital anomalies in babies born to mothers living near 21 hazardous waste landfill sites in 5 European countries. The study found an increased risk of congenital anomalies for babies whose mothers lived within 3km of a landfill site, with an odds ratio of 1.33 after adjusting for maternal age and socioeconomic status.
