We prove an existence and uniqueness of weak solutions of a general mean field equation of nonlinear diffusion with the Newtonian potential pressure. Moreover, we study the finite speed of propagation of solutions. This model arises from considering a compressible fluid with a density distribution u(x, t) and with Darcy's law, and p denotes the pressure. Such an equation of this type has been studied by the authors in [4,7,12,13,16,18], and the references therein.
