What is Fall Risk Assessment in Rural Elderly Homes about?

This study assessed 655 rural homes of elders aged 60+ in India to identify fall risks. Common risks identified were poor lighting in the living room (95%) and bedroom (94%), absence of light switches near beds (63%), uneven/slippery bathroom surfaces (41%), lack of handrails in toilets (98%), and obstacles outside homes (44%). Overall, almost all homes had risks. Further research is needed to develop standards tailored to rural Indian housing to promote fall prevention for elders.
