The Laguna de Guatavita is a circular lake located 57 km northeast of Bogota, Colombia in the Cordillera Oriental mountain range. It was one of the sacred lakes of the indigenous Muisca people, who conducted rituals there involving covering their leader in gold dust before he dove into the lake, throwing offerings into the waters.
