What is Rasburicase: G6PD deficiency: case report about?

A 40-year-old man developed G6PD deficiency during treatment with rasburicase for presumptive tumor lysis syndrome [routes and dosages not stated]. The man presented with a newly diagnosed diffuse large B cell lymphoma with involvement of the cervical lymph nodes. He was started on rasburicase for treatment of presumptive tumor lysis syndrome (TLS). One day after initiation of rasburicase, he developed symptomatic methemoglobinaemia with increased methemoglobin to 8.4% and haemolytic anaemia. A peripheral blood smear demonstrated anaemia with marked anisopoikilocytosis including numerous blister cells and occasional bite cells. Further investigation revealed glucose6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency due to treatment with rasburicase.
