What is Melting and subsolidus reactions in the system K2O-CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O: corrections and additional experimental data about?
Melting relationships in the system K20-CaO-A120 3 -SiO a-H20 have been reinvestigated using Schreinemakers analysis and hydrothermal experiments. The reaction sanidine + muscovite + zoisite + quartz + va-por=melt has been bracketed at 10, 15, and 20 kbars and 670-680, 680-690, and 690-700 ~ C, respectively and it marks the lowest solidus temperatures in the system investigated. Below 10 kbars, experimental data on the beginning of melting in zoisite-or muscovite-bearing anorthite + sanidine assemblages have been obtained, which are not showing any differences and therefore point to melt compositions close to the feldspar-quartz join. CaO-A120 3 -SiO z-H20 (KCASH) were reported. These experiments helped locate two invariant points at 675 ~ C/ 8.7 kbars and 680 ~ C/10 kbars, respectively, which marked the lowest solidus temperatures of the system investigated. Redoing the Schreinemakers analysis around these invariant points with a slightly, but significantly different melt composition yields several new reactions one of which was investigated experimentally and results are reported in this paper. Compared with the earlier data, this new reaction gives solidus temperatures at 10-20k
