What is Understanding Light Refraction Basics about?

Refraction of light occurs when a light ray changes its path as it passes from one medium to another, bending towards the normal in denser media and away in rarer media. The refractive index, a dimensionless quantity, is defined as the ratio of the speed of light in vacuum to that in the medium, and is constant for a given pair of media. The power of a lens, measured in dioptres, is the reciprocal of its focal length, with 1 dioptre corresponding to a focal length of 1 meter.
