What is Petrous Portion about?

The petrous portion, also known as the petrous pyramid or pars petrosa, contains the organs of hearing and equilibrium, including mastoid air cells. It is the thickest and densest part of the temporal bone in the cranium and projects anteriorly toward the midline from the external auditory meatus (EAM). The petrous ridge corresponds to the level of the temporal external auditory landmark (TEA).
