This study investigates the association between disrupted skin barrier function and the burning sensation experienced by patients with atopic dermatitis after applying topical tacrolimus. Results show that patients who reported a burning sensation had significantly higher transepidermal water loss (TEWL) compared to those who did not. The findings suggest that increased TEWL can predict the burning sensation, and using moisturizers may help mitigate this side effect.
