About this document

Hindu Funeral Customs and Rituals by Aswanth is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Hindu funeral traditions generally involve cremation of the body as soon as possible after death. The body is washed and dressed by family before being taken to the cremation site. Men of the family then build a pyre and the eldest male circles the body and lights the pyre. After cremation, the family mourns for 13 days and the ashes are later immersed in a sacred river. A memorial event is held one year after death to pay respects to the deceased.
