What is Machining of Microalloyed Forging Steels about?
This paper evaluates the machinability of microalloyed forging steels, particularly those alloyed with vanadium, in comparison to hardened and tempered steels. The findings indicate that microalloyed steels are generally as machinable as their hardened counterparts, but their machinability is more sensitive to workpiece hardness, especially at tensile strengths above 1000 MN/m². Suggestions for compositional adjustments to enhance machinability are also discussed.
