What is Aviation Text Radar Reports Overview about?

Text Radar Reports (SD) are issued every hour and half hour by National Weather Service forecast offices. They present weather radar information in an alphanumeric code describing precipitation type, intensity, and movement. The reports are used by computers to generate weather charts depicting areas of precipitation. Radar detects precipitation but not wind or temperatures. It provides information about storm location and movement but not about storm severity or composition.
