This document provides input data and design calculations for a base plate connecting a W12x58 steel column to a concrete foundation. The base plate is 16 inches by 11.8 inches and 3/8 inches thick. Calculations are shown to check the bearing pressure on the concrete is adequate and to determine the required base plate thickness according to equations in the AISC manual. The bearing pressure is found to be satisfactory and the required plate thickness is determined to be 0.27 inches.
