A keyboard is an input device that contains keys users press to enter data and instructions into a computer. Christopher Latham Sholes invented the modern keyboard design and patented it in 1868. There are several types of keyboards including standard, laptop, gaming, ergonomic, laser/infrared, rollup, wired, and wireless keyboards. The keyboard contains function keys, a numeric keypad, navigation keys, typewriter keys, special keys like Alt, Ctrl, Tab, and Shift, and an Escape key.
