A deaerator removes dissolved gases from boiler feedwater. There are two main types - tray-type with a vertical deaeration section above a storage tank, and spray-type with a horizontal vessel for deaeration and storage. Deaerators use low-pressure steam to strip gases from preheated feedwater and vent them, while storing the deaerated water for pumping to boilers.
