What is Understanding Perfect Forward Secrecy about?
Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) ensures that compromising present or future session keys does not enable decrypting past session data. It works by generating a unique session key for every session, using ephemeral Diffie-Hellman key exchange to derive session keys from publicly exchanged random numbers rather than encrypting pre-master secrets with private keys. This prevents attackers with stolen private keys from decrypting all previously recorded encrypted traffic.
