## Suxamethonium-chloride Prolonged neuromuscular blockade: case report A 30-year-old woman developed prolonged neuromuscular blockade during treatment with suxamethonium-chloride for laryngospasm. The woman, who had type 1 diabetes mellitus and cholelithiasis, presented to the hospital with nausea, emesis and intermittent right upper quadrant pain for 5 days. She was scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. On presentation, her BMI was found to be 24.8. She underwent induction of general anaesthesia with an endotracheal tube with propofol and rocuroniumbromide [rocuronium]. She was haemodynamically stable during the surgery. Thereafter, she was reversed with sugammadex with a train of four (TOF) monitoring revealing 4/4 twitches prior to emergence. Thereafter, she was extubated. After extubating, poor air movement was noted indicating laryngospasm, which did not improved with jaw thrust maneuvers and positive pressure. Therefore, she started receiving IV suxamethonium-chloride [succinylcholine] 40mg. Consequently, her laryngospasm rapidly improved with easy mask ventilation.
