What is Information Sheet Somaliland about?

Somaliland is an unrecognized region in East Africa, bordered by Ethiopia and Somalia, with a population of 4.5 million and a capital in Hargeisa. It declared independence from Somalia in 1991 after being part of the British Empire and has its own government and democratic elections, but lacks international recognition. The people of Somaliland seek recognition as an independent country, evidenced by a 2016 petition signed by over one million residents supporting their independence.
