This study evaluated the toxicity and repellency of the monoterpenoids thymol, carvacrol, and linalool against the castor bean tick Ixodes ricinus. Thymol and carvacrol showed high ovicidal and larvicidal activity even at low doses and over 90% repellency at 0.25%. Linalool did not demonstrate any toxic effects on ticks and had limited repellency only at 5%. The results suggest that thymol and carvacrol warrant further study as potential natural acaricides for controlling I. ricinus and tick-borne diseases.
