1) In 1945, Dr. Mohammad Jamal Bhutta proposed establishing a medical college in Multan as there was only one in Punjab at the time with low Muslim enrollment. 2) In 1950, the Governor of Punjab announced the decision to establish Nishtar Medical College and Hospital in Multan, named after Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar. 3) Construction began in 1951 and the college was inaugurated that year with its first class of 52 male students taught at the Civil Hospital while the new campus was built.
