What is Kiln Feed Movement and Flame Effects about?

When the flame in a kiln is shortened, the unburned dark feed material will move towards the kiln outlet. If the feed is harder to burn than usual or there is a higher load of material, shortening the flame causes the burning zone to cool and the dark feed moves to the outlet. Lengthening the flame while maintaining enough heat can cause the dark feed to move towards the inlet area if the feed requires less heat to reach burning temperature.
