The Omni Bearing Selector (OBS) is used in VOR navigation systems to allow pilots to select and determine the radial they are on. It provides an error signal proportional to the offset from the intended track. The OBS uses a resolver that is mechanically connected to a readout dial. The resolver applies a phase shift to the reference 30Hz signal from the converter so that it nulls with the variable 30Hz signal at the proper radial.
