The Phos Hilaron hymn from the 2nd-4th centuries CE is the earliest Christian hymn still sung today. The text praises God and Jesus Christ. Though the exact melody is unknown, the words date back to the 3rd-4th century while the current westernized melody was composed in the 19th century by Ioannis Sakellerides.
