This study examined growth retardation and delayed sexual maturation in 114 children with beta thalassemia major compared to 100 healthy controls aged 8-16 years. The study found significantly higher rates of underweight (78.1% vs 9%) and short stature (56.1% vs 7%) in patients compared to controls.
