What is Industrial Biofilter Case Studies about?
Biofilters are air-phase biological reactors used for the removal of toxic and nuisance pollutants emitted from industries such as wastewater treatment facilities, chemical and petrochemical industries, pet food industries, rendering plants, printed circuit board manufactures, candle fragrance factories, and so on. The compounds emitted from many of these facilities are highly toxic or odorous. Environmental regulatory authorities have placed strict control of these air pollutants, which have very low threshold limit values. Biofilters offer many advantages when compared with conventional technologies; therefore, more and more industries select biofilters for controlling the toxic and odorous pollutants. Biofilter system consists of mainly a pretreatment unit, a humidifier, and a bioreactor. Bioreactor unit is essentially a packed bed biological reactor operated in the gas phase mode. Air flows through a packed bed medium which can be organic materials (i.e., compost, peat, wood bark, soil, etc.) or inorganic materials (i.e., shale, biochar, carbon, light weight concrete particles, etc.). Design of a biofilter system starts with air stream characterization. ### 9.2 Air stream chara
