What is Student Challenges in Quadratic Equations about?

This study examined how 10th grade students in Turkey solve quadratic equations with one unknown. An open-ended test was administered to 113 students to analyze their reasoning processes. The results showed that students struggled with factoring equations, especially in non-standard forms. While students knew rules for solving quadratics, they applied them procedurally without understanding why.
