Rene Descartes was a French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist born in 1596 who is considered one of the founders of modern philosophy. He studied at Jesuit schools and the University of Poitiers, graduating in 1616 without practicing law. Some of his accomplishments include discovering the X and Y axis which changed mathematics, writing the influential book Seeking the Truth in the Sciences in 1637, and creating modern geometry rather than revising the existing system.
